Uses

This combination drug Janumet (sitagliptin/metformin) is used along with an appropriate diet and exercise program and is probably taken along with other medications to control high blood sugar. Doctors recommend using this medicine for patients with type 2 diabetes.

Limitations of Use

It is not for the treatment of type 1 diabetes. It was not studied in patients with a history of pancreatitis.

Sitagliptin -Sitagliptin works by increasing the level of natural substances called incretins. After meals, these incretins help control blood sugar by increasing insulin release in your body. It also helps in reducing the production and absorption of glucose (sugars) by the liver and intestines.

Metformin - Metformin works to help maintain your body's proper response to the insulin you naturally produce. It also reduces the amount of sugar produced by your liver and reduces the absorption of glucose by your stomach/intestines. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent kidney damage, blindness, loss of organs, nerve problems, and sexual function problems.
